Meditation in the Christian Tradition
March 17 @ 1:30 pm - 4:30 pm£15
Traditions of Christian meditation go back to the earliest days of the church and draw on Biblical narratives such as the temptation of Jesus in the wilderness and the instructions on prayer given to his disciples. Yet it remains somewhat hidden within the life of the church today. This workshop will provide an opportunity to reflect on meditation within the context of the Christian contemplative tradition, and its practical application in contemporary life.
The Revd Dr Nicholas Buxton is Priest in Charge of the Church of St John the Baptist, Newcastle, and a founding partner of Just Meditation CIC and the Newcastle Meditation Centre. He has a PhD in Buddhist Philosophy, and is the author of Tantalus and the Pelican: exploring monastic spirituality today (2009) and The Wilderness Within: meditation and modern life(2014).
